THE RIDOTTO

 

The former casino, ball room and theatre, the heart of the XVIII Century magnificent Carnival of Venice. The palace belonging to the noble Dandolo family of San Moisè and was the first place to accommodate a "Ridotto ", public gaming rooms (1638-1774). It was open during the Carnival, which lasted few months, and was run by nobles, who abided by very strict rules involving the use of masks by those who frequented the rooms, excluding the croupiers.

 

 

Giacomo Casanova considered the Ridotto as the stage setting and backdrop for his conquests.

 

During the 19th and 20th centuries, Palazzo Dandolo was used for various purposes, and in particular it become a Dance Hall and a Theatre.

In the 1992 it was acquired by Benetton and exemplary restored.

Period dances

minuets, rondo, quadrilles, badineries, waltzes, accompanied by a classical orchestra and leaded by the Dance Master Wladimir.
