THE RIDOTTO

The palace of the noble Dandolo and was the first place to accommodate a "Ridotto ", public gaming rooms (1638-1774). It was open during the Carnival, which lasted few months, and was run by nobles, who abided by very strict rules involving the use of masks by those who frequented the rooms, excluding the croupiers.Giacomo Casanova considered the Ridotto, the heart of the XVIII Century magnificent Carnival of Venice, as the stage setting and backdrop for his conquests.
